Organizational History

Originally built by Burt Reynolds in 1978 as a dinner theatre and occupied during the 80's and early 90's by Reynolds and his successors, the landmark building was acquired in 2001 by the not-for-profit Palm Beach Playhouse, Inc.  Following a successful capital campaign that raised an excess of $6.5 million, the 28,000 square foot theatre was renovated and re-named the "Maltz Jupiter Theatre" in recognition of major benefactors, Milton and Tamar Maltz.

Re-opening in February 2004, the new Maltz Jupiter Theatre is a state-of-the-art premier regional theatre serving Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

Introducing children to live theatre and the arts is a major focus of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.  To that end, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Institute was launched in 2005.  This program offers acting and dance classes, school-based programming, internships for area college and high school students, a summer arts camp, and substantially reduced ticket prices for students.

In addition to a supportive Board of Directors, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre has over 500 volunteers assisting in a variety of functions including office support, ushering, special events set-up, and computer services.  The Maltz Jupiter Theatre Guild works on a number of special fundraising events to benefit the Children's Theatre Institute Endowment Fund which the Guild has identified as its major focus.
