Magical Musical The Boy Friend Opens at Maltz Jupiter Theatre
Due to Popular Demand November 27, 2007 (Jupiter, FL) - The stellar Fifth Anniversary Season continues with one of the most expansive, large scale productions ever to be mounted at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre - The Boy Friend. This beloved musical opens on December the fourth and runs through the 23rd.
The Boy Friend, produced in association with the Riverside Theatre, is a loving spoof of 1920s musical comedies. Amidst happy flappers and perfect young ladies, romance blooms on the French Riviera as an English heiress suddenly falls for the delivery boy. The play originally opened on Broadway in 1954 at the Royale Theatre and closed after 485 performances. The show starred newcomer Julie Andrews in her Broadway debut as Polly. A revival opened on Broadway in 1970 starring Sandy Duncan as Maisie. Duncan received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Performance as well as a Tony Award® nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre's production features one of the most acclaimed and up and coming choreographers from Broadway, Denis Jones. The partnership of Jones and director Mark Martino and one of the largest casts ever assembled this magical musical will entertain audiences of all ages. With such popular musical numbers as "Won't You Charleston with Me?" "I Could be Happy with You" and "It's Never Too Late To Fall In Love," makes this THE show not to miss this season!
The demand for The Boy Friend was so high that the run was extended for an additional week. The play opens on Tuesday, December 4 and now runs through December 23. Showtimes are Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 pm; Saturday at 8 pm; Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened in February 2004 as a 550-seat, nonprofit community-based regional theater in the former Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre. Cast Bios: Natalie Hall (Polly) Natalie is making her Maltz Jupiter theatre debut! Natalie is recent graduate of The American Musical And Dramatic Academy In New York City. Upon graduating, Natalie performed at Town Hall in New york in Broadways rising stars. The Last star fighter at NYMF playing the role of Jenny. She is also a part of the new up and coming kids pop group, "INfUSION", and has just finished her first album. She has a Kids Television show airing on PBS in November. She just finished filming an episode of "Law and Order (SVU)" airing in December.

Krista Kurtzberg (Dulcie) Krista feels truly blessed to be a part of this production and to be in Florida!! She most recently played the Cat in the Hat in "Seussical" on tour. She then proceeded to the Off-Broadway company of "Seussical" at the Lucille Lortel Theater, where she understudied five out of the 6 leading roles. Other credits include: "Li'l Abner" at the Goodspeed Opera House, Ruby in "Dames at Sea," performing "42nd Street" overseas in Moscow, Ariel in "Footloose," and Kathy Selden in "Singin' in the Rain." Krista graduated from Wright State University with a degree in Musical Theater.
Kerri Rose (Fay) Previous credits include: Peggy Sawyer in 42nd Street at New Bedford Festival Theatre, Ensemble in 42nd Street at Walnut Street Theatre (Barrymore Award Nomination), and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet at AmeriCulture Arts Festival. Kerri is a recent graduate of The University of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Theatre.

Mike Frankey (Tony) Mike Frankey is making his debut at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. He recently finished the National Tour of The Boy Friend under the direction of Julie Andrews. Connor Gallagher (Bobby) He was most recently seen as the carpet/ Lefou understudy in the final company of Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Ann McNeely (Lady Brockhurst) Anna McNeely just finished a summer of Sondhiem, Sally in Follies and the Palm Beach Drama works production of Side by Side by Sondhiem. Anna now calls Florida home after 30 years in N.Y.C., where 20 of them were on Broadway. Anna made her Broadway debut with Donny Osmond in Little Johnny Jones as Mrs. Kentworth. She then created the role of Jennanydots in the original production of Cats, one of the longest running shows in Broadway history and stayed for almost 7 years. Other Broadway credits include Electra in the Tyne Daly revival of Gypsy, and appear as Mrs. Potts, Madame Bouche and her own Egg Timer in the original company of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Anna has toured the country with several Broadway productions including Gypsy, Beauty and the Beast, The Music Man with Tony Randall and Camelot with Rock Hudson. Anna enjoys working close to home most recently as Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit and Mrs. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol at the Riverside Theatre Company in Vero Beach and also in Passin it On at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Other theatrical credits include Hello Dolly (Dolly Levi), Fiddler on the Roof (Yenta), Damn Yankees (Meg), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Mrs. Bixby), Annie (Miss Hannigan), 1776 and High Society. Anna's television credits include "Gypsy" (Miss Electra) with Bette Midler, "Cats" (PBS Broadway's Lost Treasures) and several national commercials. When Anna is not performing, she lives on Hutchinson Island with her husband Steve Roland, where she teaches private voice and acting, working closely with Patrick Madden, drama teacher at the Port St. Lucie H.S. and often sings the National Anthem for the Mets spring training season.
Dick Decareau (Lord Brockhurst) Dick is making his Maltz Jupiter Theatre debut in The Boy Friend. He was recently nominated by the Boston critics for best supporting actor in a musical for the role of Wilbur in Hairspray, at the North Shore Music Theatre. Broadway credits include Raggedy Ann and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Off-Broadway credits include "Jimmy Valentine", "Hurry Hurry Hollywood" and "Captain's Courageous" at the Manhattan Theatre Club. National tours include "Ragtime" and three productions of "Annie". Dick has performed in theatres all over the country. This past summer he played Baptista, in "Kiss Me Kate" and Hopkins in "1776" at the Sacramento Music Circus. Dick has played Cogsworth in four productions of "Beauty and the Beast". Last season he played Senator Phogbound in "Lil' Abner" at the Goodspeed Opera House. Some of the other credits include "1776" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Geva Theatre, "Merrily We Role Along" at the La Jolla Playhouse, "Peter Pan" at the Actor's Theatre Lousiville, "The Wizard of Oz" at Syracuse Stage and "Sugar" at the Gateway Playhouse. Erin Maguire (Hortense) Erin Maguire is thrilled to be playing in Florida again. Audiences may remember her from Florida Stage's recent production of Backwards in High Heels as Ethel Merman and Katherine Hepburn. Michael Scott (Percival Brown) Michael Scott (Percival Browne) is thrilled to be back at the Jupiter Theater where he was nominated for a Carbonel Award for his performance as the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance. On Broadway Mr. Scott appeared in the recent revival of 110 In the Shade, Follies, Showboat, Pirates of Penzance, Happy New Year and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Mark Martino (Director) Mark is delighted to return to the Maltz Jupiter Theatre having previously been here on both sides of the footlights: as Harry the Horse in last season's GUYS AND DOLLS and as associate director of the 2005 holiday show PLAID TIDINGS. When not enjoying the warm winter weather on the treasure coast Mark is busy directing at many of the nation's leading regional theatres. Among them are Cape Cod's historic Cape Playhouse (THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, BEEHIVE, GUYS AND DOLLS, NO NO NANETTE!), The Music Theatre of Louisville (HELLO DOLLY!, WEST SIDE STORY), Connecticut's Tri-Art's Theatre (FOREVER PLAID), Maine's Arundel Barn Playhouse (PETE-N-KEELY), The Cleveland Playhouse and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (PLAID TIDINGS), New Jersey's Creative Arts Centre (THE MUSIC MAN), Pennsylvania's Riverside Theatre (MOBY DICK!-THE MUSICAL), and New York City's Steinbach Theatre (A CHORUS LINE). Denis Jones (Choreographer) Denis has been proud, for the past three years, to serve as Director and Choreographer of Broadway Bares, benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. Recent projects as Choreographer include Thoroughly Modern Millie for the Cape Playhouse, Meet Me in St. Louis for the Paper Mill Playhouse and Everyone Loves a Winner, A Tribute to John Kander for The Westpart Country Playhouse. Denis is the Associate Choreographer to Jerry Mitchell for Broadway's Legally Blonde and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and has assisted Mr. Mitchell with the opening numbers for the Tony Awards in '04 and '05. Denis choreographed the Broadway concerts of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", on the Twentieth Century, "A Wonderful Life", as well as Charles Busch and Julie Halston together on Broadway for the Actor's Fund of America. Other credits include directing three National Corporate Theatre Fund Galas honoring Chita Rivera, John Lithgow and Elaine Strich, choreographing the Julie Harris Tribute for the Kennedy Center Honors (CBS), "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", "You Might as Well Live" for the New York Musical Theatre Festival. "Broadway By The Year" at Town Hall, "True Colors" starring Cyndi Lauder at Town Hall, The National Tour of "Legends" starring Joan Collins as well as national commercials for Staples and Glade. Denis also directed and choreographed "Life is a Cabaret, A Tribute to Kander and Ebb" as well as Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner's reunion concert, both at Town Hall.
Helen Gregory (Music Director) Helen returns to Conduct her third show at the Maltz Jupiter (previously: "Guys and Dolls" and "Man of LaMancha") and is excited to be a part of this joint venture with the Riverside Theatre. She has performed Off-Broadway (NY Theatre Workshop, WPA, The Vineyard, Public Theatre, LaMama E.T.C.), in regional houses, (Goodman Theatre, Indiana Repertory, Birmingham Theatre, Papermill Playhouse, Riverside Theatre [in Vero Beach, FL], & The Hangar Theatre), on national tours (GREASE, JOSEPH..., OKLAHOMA), for educational institutions, summer stock, dinner theatre, and the occasional cocktail party. Her original works and arrangements have been featured at several regional theatres (Hudson Guild, Hanger Theatre, Gaslight Theatre, Top Hat Theatre Club, Cornell University, Ithaca College, Diamond Circle Melodrama, & Early Stages Productions) as well as for industrials for American Movie Classics and the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas.
Dan Kuchar (Set Designer) Dan Kuchar has designed sets for both theatre and film. Theatre: Guys & Dolls, Pete ‘N' Keely, No No Nanette, all with director Mark Martino at the Cape Playhouse. Eight seasons of Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center as well as national tour, Oops! The Big Apple Circus Stage Show directed by Tony Walton. World Premiere production Rupert Holmes' Thumbs starring Kathie Lee Gifford and Dianne Canova at The Helen Hayes. Jose M. Rivera (Costume Designer) Jose M. Rivera is thrilled to be making his Maltz Jupiter Theatre debut with The Boy Friend and to once again be working with Mark Martino and Denis Jones. A resident of Los Angeles, recent credits include: Urban Cowboy The Musical and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for The Gateway Playhouse; Beauty And The Beast and Hello Dolly for the Glendale Centre Theatre; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes; A Chorus Line; and The Unsinkable Molly Brown; and the Feature Films: "National Lampoon's TV The Movie" and "What We Do Is Secret". He has designed, assisted and/or coordinated over 200 productions for theatre, film and television. You can see his work on The Lifetime Network with The TV Movies: "She's No Angel; Blind Obsession", "The Perfect Wife","The Perfect Nanny" and "Facing the Enemy", On SoapNet with the TV Show: "One Minute Soap Opera" and on the big screen with the feature films: "The Storyteller" and "Evil Alien Conquerors".
Donald Thomas (Lighting Designer) Mr. Thomas returns to the Maltz-Jupiter Theatre, having designed productions of The Man of La Mancia, Deathtrap and Barefoot in the Park in previous seasons. He will also design The Full Monty and Master Class here later in the season. Mr. Thomas also designs extensively for opera, and his designs are seen regularly at both Palm Beach Opera and at Florida Grand Opera, as well as in Seattle, Baltimore, Atlanta and Washington, D.C . He recently designed the world premiere of the opera Cyrano, based on Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, for Michigan Opera in Detroit. The production will be recreated in Philadelphia and Miami during the next year. Mr. Thomas has designed one Broadway show, Alcazar de Paris, numerous off-Broadway shows including the New York revival of Kurt Weill's musical tribute, "Berlin to Broadway", "the Music of Kurt Weill". He has also designed numerous national tours of plays and musicals as well. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, and teaches a master class in Lighting Design at CUA in Washington, D.C.
Keith Kohrs (Sound Designer) Keith was born and Raised in Upstate New York, where he studied music and recording as well as performed with various musical and theatrical groups. He received a degree in Live Sound and Recording technology from the Rockland Institute of Recording in New York. Upon moving to Florida in 1989 , he started a Sound and Lighting rental company and continued his journey in the music industry. He has worked on local theater productions including Tommy with Shiloh Productions, Jesus Christ Superstar, with MJM Entertainment , and many others in conjunction with the Lyric Theater in Stuart Florida as well as here at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Last year he designed the sound for Deathtrap, a huge success here at the Maltz, and this season he is returning as the Sound Designer for all of the Maltz Theatres 2007-2008 productions.
Emily Swiderski (Stage Manager) Theatrical credits include Florida Stage, Seaside Music Theater, Mad Cow Theatre, and Walt Disney Entertainment. Favorite productions include Peter Pan, Opus, Backwards in High Heels, and Stop Kiss. Proud member of Actors' Equity Association.
Brandy DeMil (Assistant Stage Manager) Brandy is happy to be returning to the Maltz after last season's Man of La Mancha. A graduate of Rollins College and member of Actor's Equity, her favorite touring and regional credits include West Side Story, Arcadia, Spiderman Live!, Gypsy, and the Rake's Progress (at the Santa Fe Opera). |
