(Jupiter, FL - July 28, 2006 ) - The Maltz Jupiter Theatre recently announced the promotion of Andrew Kato to Artistic Director. Kato has been the Producing Director of the theatre for the past year. He has also been the creative consultant/coordinating producer of the Tony Awards for the past three years. "Andrew has brought a tremendous amount of expertise and creativity to the theatre and has demonstrated effective leadership skills that make him a natural for this position," said Milton Maltz, Chairman of the Board. In Kato's new role, he will be responsible for programming the theatre and implementing his artistic vision to the overall brand of the theatre, including the production, marketing and new Theatre Institute. Prior to coming to the theatre, Kato was a freelance creative producer in New York City best know for creating large-scale one-night events including Chess in Concert starring Josh Groban; the Twentieth Anniversary Concert Benefit of Dreamgirls; Funny Girl in Concert; the Original Broadway Cast Reunion Concert of Once On This Island; Great Joy!, A Holiday Celebration from Broadway; The Tenth Anniversary Concert Version of Into the Woods starring Bernadette Peters; Songs For A New World In Concert; and On The Twentieth Century In Concert. Andrew produced the 2003 and 2004 Concert of Excellence at Lincoln Center; the 1999 through 2002 New York State Governor's Arts Awards; and Experience Lincoln Center (hosted by Jon Stewart). He was the co-conceiver and Associate Producer of Madhattan which opened the Las Vegas' New York New York Hotel and Casino, Savion Glover and Friends at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park, and off-Broadway's the Bomb-itty of Errors. He was a Producing Associate on the Broadway productions of Jelly's Last Jam, Angels in America and the off-Broadway production of Cryptogram. He has conceived, developed and/or directed many new musicals including Switch! (Jupiter Theatre); Gentlemen's Bet (Columbia University); 1001 Nights (Lyric Theatre); Street Songs (The Public Theatre); and Diva Diaries (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Lakeshore Theater in Chicago). The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened in February, 2004 as a 550-seat, nonprofit community-based professional regional theatre and is a member of the prestigious League of Resident Theatres.
