Same Time, Next Year Kicks Off Maltz Jupiter Theatre Fifth Anniversary Season The Most Produced Two Character Play In History To Be Directed by Local Favorite J. Barry Lewis (Jupiter, FL) October 26, 2007 - The fifth anniversary season, admittedly the most aggressive season to date, selling over 6,200 season subscriptions, begins on November 6 with Bernard Slade's Same Time, Next Year. The most produced two character play in history, Same Time, Next Year, directed by local favorite, J. Barry Lewis, is one of the most popular Tony-nominated® comedies of the century. The play opened in 1975 and ran on Broadway for four years starring Ellen Burstyn (who won the Tony Award for her portrayal of Doris) and Charles Grodin. This hit play, with 1453 performances under its belt, ran longer than musicals such as The Sound of Music, The Music Man, and Funny Girl to name a few. It later became a motion picture starring Burstyn and Alan Alda. This crowd-pleasing play, written by Bernard Slade, follows the love-affair of a couple who rendezvous once a year at a California inn. Their fling lasts for over twenty years spanning 1951 to the mid-1970s through changing America, including the Vietnam War and the ups and downs of the couple's evolving lives. "We chose Same Time, Next Year because this play was once a contemporary comedy but has become a classic period piece revealing strong humor and humanity," said Andrew Kato, Maltz Jupiter Theatre Artistic Director. "I am thrilled to be bringing this classic back to the stage with a fresh look; it is like engaging an old friend in an evening of great entertainment," said J. Barry Lewis. Same Time, Next Year will enchant theater-goers for two weeks only November 6 through 18. Showtimes are Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 pm; Saturday at 8 pm; Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets are $28 to $48 and are available at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Box Office, online at www.jupitertheatre.org or by phone 561-575-2223 or 800-445-1666.
