(Jupiter, FL) September 19, 2006 - The Maltz Jupiter Theatre's Institute is proud to present the first show of their five part Page to Stage Series: Stone Soup on Saturday, September 30th at 10 am at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Stone Soup is a musical adaptation of Marcia Brown's 1974 classic tale produced by Dream Child productions. In this interpretation a young boy named Simon sets out to find food for his hungry family and stumbles upon a village inhabited by some zany characters. Come watch Simon trick them into helping him make the best stone soup ever! The Page to State series is a five-show series geared to children ages 4 through 12 produced by two professional production companies, Stages Productions and Dreamchild Productions. The shows are based on classic children's stories and will be presented once each month from September through January. All shows in the series will be presented by Chick-fil-A at the Gardens Mall. Other performances will include Cinderella, Hansel & Gretel, Santa's Holiday Review, and Jack & the Beanstalk. In conjunction to the series the Theatre Institute will launch "From Page To Stage" workshops at the Maltz Theatre and at other locations such as the local library or various elementary school classrooms and meeting halls. "It's a completely free program we are offering. Already this year, we are scheduled for the Tequesta, Jupiter and Boynton Beach Libraries as well as St. Joseph's School in Stuart and Lighthouse Elementary," said Judy Gelman, Education Director at the theatre. "We get the children together and read the story of the upcoming production. After reading the story, we will discuss things like the setting and scenes in the story, what the characters are all about, and how the storytelling can grow into a play," continues Gelman. Kids from the audience will perform a mixture of script and improvisation as they act out the story under Gelman's direction. They will learn stage direction and discuss the meaning and focus of the story during this portion of the workshop. Those interested in hosting a workshop should contact Judy Gelman at 561-743-2666. To purchase Stone Soup or additional shows in the series contact the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Box Office, online at http://www.jupitertheatre.org/ or by phone 561-575-2223 or 800-445-1666. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened in February 2004 as a 550-seat, nonprofit community-based regional theater in the former Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre. The theater is a member of the prestigious League of Resident Theatres. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is located at 1001 Indiantown Road and State Road A1A in Jupiter. |
