Maltz Jupiter Theatre Wins Top Honor at Carbonell Awards; Wins More Than Any Regional Theatre

Six Total Awards won as Man of La Mancha Wins Best Musical

(Jupiter, FL) April 8, 2008 – The Maltz Jupiter Theatre received the highest honor in South Florida theatre excellence winning the Best Musical Award plus five other Carbonell Awards - winning more than any other South Florida regional theatre.

Man of La Mancha’s wins included Best Production of a Musical; Best Director/Musical for Peter Flynn and Best Light Design Donald Edmund Thomas.

The Boy Friend, the theatre’s splashy 1920’s musical won three additional Carbonells for best Choreography/Musical Denis Jones; Best Scenic Design Dan Kuchar and Best Costume Design Jose M. Rivera.

In 2007 the Maltz Jupiter Theatre took home the prestigious Best Production of a Musical for The Tin Pan Alley Rag along with two others for Jiri Zizka as Best Director of a Musical and Best Musical Direction for Brad Ellis. Over the past five seasons the theatre has won five total Carbonell Awards and has been nominated for 46 awards.

32nd Annual Carbonell Awards took place Monday, April 7 at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened in February 2004 as a 550-seat, nonprofit community-based regional theater in the former Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre.
