Costume Shop Manager 

 The Costume Shop Manager supports the artistic vision of Maltz Jupiter Theatre with detailed oversight of the Costume Department, managing full and part time employees in the costume shop as well as volunteers.  This position works closely with the Costume Designer for each production to achieve the Designer’s vision by managing build schedules, purchases, fittings, and work flows for all costume elements for each production.  This position is responsible for ensuring that costumes for Maltz Jupiter Theatre productions are delivered on time, on budget, and in accordance with the design.  

 This role is an integral part of the Production Department, reporting to the Director of Production, and works closely with many on the production team including stage management, Props Manager, Sound Engineer, Technical Director and Lighting Supervisor.  

 Qualifications:  

  • A degree in Theatre with concentration in Costume construction or design or equivalent work experience 
  • Knowledge of all common costume construction practices, in addition to sewing abilities 
  • Ability to read and interpret costume renderings from Designers 
  • Strong computer research skills with specific knowledge of Microsoft Suite 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to foster a team environment with a variety of experience levels 
  • Advanced organizational, time management and problem-solving skills, ability to meet deadlines 

 

Responsibilities for this position include: 

  • Coordinating with Director of Production to determine show/project needs, budgets, and schedules  
  • Creating build schedules and overseeing all costume construction elements, providing weekly updates to Director of Production on progress   
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment  
  • Purchasing/Procuring all costume elements that are not constructed by the costume team 
  • Reading and interpreting costume renderings from designers 
  • Coordinating with Costume and Wardrobe staff to ensure that costumes are constructed to the highest quality and on schedule 
  • Coordinating with Stage Managers to schedule fittings throughout the rehearsal process 
  • Ensuring the quality of costumes before they leave the shop 
  • Attending all Design and Production meetings 
  • Ordering shop supplies, maintaining shop equipment, and coordinating special events during the season 
  • This position will work some nights and weekends during the MJT season 

 Pay: $60,000-$65,000 annually, based on previous experience.  Full time, year round with comprehensive benefit package.  Relocation assistance available.
